Bulletproof Coffee has been the talk of the town for a couple of years. In case you have not heard yet, this is coffee that is made with butter instead of milk or cream, and we must say it is something you must experience once in your lifetime. There are no words. But we digress, ever so slightly. If you’ve had Bulletproof Coffee, then you’ve had Keto Coffee. Well, at least one expression of it. There is more. But first, for those who are not familiar with it, we must say a few words about the Keto Diet.
Bulletproof Coffee was the culinary delight to discover in 2016-2017; the Keto Diet is not new, but it has gained a significant following recently, for those who adhere to it cannot help but share how it has changed their lives. Please bear in mind that diets are as diverse as individuals. We each find our best strategy by trial and error. It’s about finding the right fit. It’s not about who’s got the best plan. But since any diet may impact how we Americans consume our favorite beverage, it stands to reason that we might want to apply our creative genius at adapting the recipe.
In a nutshell, the Keto (or Ketogenic) Diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet. You may want to do a search (fresh keto-java in hand of course) to learn the details. The premise is that replacing carbohydrates with fat brings the body into a state of ketosis, which in turn super-charges its fat-burning metabolism. Keto diets have been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels, one of many health benefits shared with coffee.
4 Delicious Ways to Make Your Coffee Keto-Friendly
- Cold brew, filtered, Iced, espresso. Your pick. No calories. No carbs.
- Skip the milk. Go for the cream. Heavy cream, that is. Full-fat. Unsweetened.
- With a healthy splash of unsweetened coconut or almond milk.
- Drum roll on this one… Bulletproof, Keto-Style.
For every cup of coffee, 1 TBSP butter (preferably grass-fed) + 1 TSP coconut oil. Any variation thereof will do. Experiment to your heart’s content. We recommend using a blender or electric frother. Drop the butter and coconut oil in first. Add the coffee. Smooth away.
Proponents of this java strategy observe that not only does switching from milk to higher-fat heavy cream or coconut oil fit the Keto Diet goals to a T, but is also provides two additional benefits that should not be overlooked: A true boost of energy for the body (in addition to the caffeine’s joyful jolt to your brain) and a sensation of satiety that lasts much longer. This may translate into reducing our normal propensity for snacking and overeating. Not bad for a simple, and clearly delicious, cup of coffee. Note that this is by no means an invitation to skip meals.
Always eat well… and think good thoughts as you sip your keto-style java.
